My Life in the village(pt3)..Ciscas

To catch up with the story, see the previous part.

It was during one of the school holidays. My mother had put a tight schedule to make sure we were always busy as always. All Tuesdays were spared for a duty of fetching firewood from a neighbouring forest. It was not an obvious thing because the forest was guarded and so we had to play our cards well to make sure that we were not caught. To us, this was not a difficult task as we always knew how to manoeuvre our way.

On that day, I woke up early. Alerted other girls from the neighbourhood and finally we had made a group of eight girls. We knew going to the forest alone could be risky and that is why we made sure we formed a strong group. Equipped with all what we needed such like pangas, axes and ropes, there we went to pursue our mission.

Don’t dare to make a move, if you try to act weirdly, you might go back to your mother in a different form!

A scaring voice from one of the guards thundered

We were all scared to death as we did not know our fate. They tied our hands with our own ropes and frogmarched us to an open field inside the forest before taking us to their station where they locked us in a shanty room. For all this time, we hadn’t noticed that Florah, one of the girls, was not with us! Where could she be? Did she manage to escape or something bad has happened to her? Everyone of us was worried. We knew the forest was not the best place to be and especially late in the evening due to some wild animals which used to take the advantage of the dark to harass the village.

It was now getting late, yet we had no idea what was in store for us. We could here the guards conversing outside but we comprehended nothing at all as they were from a different community. No one understood their language. We tried to scream to attract their attention, but the effort bore no fruits. One of them could understand some words from our language but what he did was just to scold us commanding us to keep quiet.

Finally, it was dark. There was no need to continue pleading for our freedom. After all, being in that room was safer than walking aimlessly in the forest which could be more dangerous for us. What about our parents? They must have been worried waiting for us to return home with no avail!

We tried to get some sleep but the place was too cold for most of us apart from Daisy. Neither the noise that we made nor the cold in the room could deter her visit to the slumber land.

The night was so long that we all wished for the sunrise. Everything seemed quiet apart from scaring sounds of wild animals which could be heard from time to time. Some of as couldn’t bear it any logger. They tried to build some warmth by crowding together. This helped them to get some sleep, but it wasn’t the case with Judith and I. No matter how much we tried to close our eyes, no urge of sleep dared to give us a courtesy call. We were forced to endure with the situation knowing that we had no way out!

Before we could see the morning sun rays, our worrying peace was interrupted by noise and commotion from outside. We hurriedly tried to alert those of us who were sleeping. Everybody was awake when we heard the deafening shout from a man whom we couldn’t recognise his voice!…..what next?….don’t miss the next part…let’s go this journey together….below this story, I request that you follow me….kindly share your opinion as you comment...let’s meet next time and know what happened.

A real inspiration especially to the young generation

I was really moved by the story of this young man by the name Walter. He used to walk miles and miles at the age of 20 years to work. He didn’t lose hope. The struggle they went through with his mother kept him more determined day by day. One day things really changed. Listen to this video from one of the TV shows courtesy of #STEVETVSHOW….it is amazing..

The best way to celebrate your birthday at this time of pandemic

I really miss that time when we used to invite everyone in the neighborhood to come and enjoy our birthday goodies. Not any longer! The company was amazing. The songs and dances not mentioning the happiness that came with sharing. It’s no more fun! We have to keep to the rule of stay home, stay safe, no gathering, keep social distance, no shaking hands and wear mask. The fun that came with being washed in cold water while people cheered is long gone.We have come up with indoor ways to remember this special day though not so entertaining. Yeah! We have to be a bit creative. Isn’t it?

So, yesterday was my birthday, 5July. I couldn’t invite my friends as I used. I couldn’t go shopping anyhowly. I had to make sure I celebrate my birthday through hooks and crooks. Yes, by all means. And so,this is what I did:

Booked the birthday cake online from one of the best bakery. A supermarket that I used to buy my stuff was ready to deliver all what I needed at the door steps. I was good to go! Morning came and everything was in my house by 10am.

I invited my friends through zoom links – an online platform. And believe it or not, at 2pm, we started our celebrations. Everything went on like any other birthday occasion. The only problem was although my friends could sing and enjoy the conversation, they couldn’t taste my cake nor wash me as we used to do it. Those were the shortcomings. All in all, the birthday came and went. I thank God for the gift of life and good health.

The pandemic is making us to be a bit creative….oooh.. I almost forgot…the birthday present/gifts are coming in by online. I have already received some. If you meant to send yours and you didn’t know how to do it, there is the PayPal below. If using your phone, this is my number…254111887814. I will appreciate your good wishes too.

What next for Kenya

Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera in kenya have been under lockdown for sometimes now. Today, President Uhuru lifted the lockdown but maintained the curfew hours.

It is expected that most of the people who were locked in Nairobi will now find their way to rural area where they have really missed to be. Life at the city has been hard to many since the strike of the pandemic.

Some lost their jobs and they are unable to feed their families. They prefer sending children and wives to countryside where there is plenty of food.

The worry is, as this large number migrate from towns to rurals, there is a possibility of the virus spreading even more. Moreover, most of the aged parents are in rurals and they are at a greater risk contracting the virus as they welcome their relatives from town.

On the other hand, those in transport business will have something to smile for. People will rush to be out of town as soon as possible, therefore ,increasing their revenue. Since the Nairobi lockdown, most of the vehicles have been parked with nothing to do. You can also see my previous post on traveling.

Still waiting to see how things will unfold….feel free to leave a comment…Do visit my other posts here. For future post …. follow.

Rise of Teenage Pregnancies in kenya – Ciscasquapro

It has been a cry from most of the parents since the arrival of coronavirus pandemic. Being away from school for a longer period, it has inculcated to change of behaviour to some of the teenagers. The rising of teenage pregnancies in kenya is shocking with some of the regions recording very high numbers of adolescence pregnancies. You can also see why children are not safe

Just recently, the president ordered all Chiefs to take good care of teenagers within their jurisdiction or else they will be answerable if there are any reports of teenage pregnancies within their area.

This children are still young and their pregnancies may come with a lot of impact in their lives. One, their bodies are not fully developed to tackle challenges that comes with pregnancy. Secondly, the stigma they experience from peers and others may cause a lot of emotional harm leading to stress and thereafter depression.

These girls still have a future to take care of and adding a burden to their early age may shutter their dreams. It is unfortunate that some of this teenage pregnancies are brought about by well known relatives. This makes it difficult for the implementation of the law as the culprits are protected by the family norms. Others threaten the child and instil fear such that she won’t disclose the incident until when it is too late.

The stay – at – home directive has been a monster to the lives of many teenagers who are taking a lot of their time exploring the internet stuff. As they engage in online learning, they come across harmful information. At their age, they are ready to experiment anything. A scenario of the boy who impregnated his two sisters was too much for the mother to handle. It becomes hard dealing with some issues on teenage pregnancies as most of these issues are family related and so they are covered up.

The big question is, WHO IS TO BLAME? The society/community, the family, the parents or the children? Let us discuss it and try to reach to a conclusion. The chat is open. Leave a reply as you comment. As we try to stay safe from the virus, the girl child may not be safe! Stay put..get more insights here ….oooh..remember to follow me. I will make sure not to disappoint!

8 Challenges that learners experience when using online classes

The directives of the lockdown experienced in most of the countries in the world has interfered with the school calendar. To pasue Education, this has made a good number of students find refuge in online classes.

Learners taking an online class.

However this has not been always easy as there are a lot of challenges that learners go through during their online lessons. Some of these challenges are:

  • Lack of internet connection in rural areas.
  • Some parents are not able to meet the extra expenses that come with internet such as paying for home fibre network or buying of bundles.
  • There is disruption when lessons are going on such as; poor internet signals, blackouts due to power failure or lack of a quiet place as classes takes place in the houses where other members are going on with their duties causing background noise and interfering with the learners concentration.
  • Computer illiteracy. Using computers for online classes needs one to have some skills. While this should be the case, some learners face some challenges when connecting to class or when needed to follow the lesson smoothly.
  • Long hours on the screen. When learners are attending their classes, they are expected to be glued to the screen for long hours as all lessons are being taught through computers. If not using a computer, the students is forced to use a mobile phone which makes them struggle a lot reading and navigating to different pages as they take notes from the teacher. In any way, online lessons are causing stress and most of students who were not used to this style of learning have complained of headache and eye problems.
  • They are not able to participate fully like in a normal class. Audio and connection issues contribute to this.
  • The teacher might not be able to cater for slow learners. After online class, the learner has no other chance to engage with the teacher for the concept that was not well understood.
  • Ignorance of some of the parents who don’t care whether the child is learning or not. Technology to them is a bother and should not interfere with their busy schedule. In such a scenario, the learner is disadvantaged.

These challenges are making life difficult to both the child and the parents. See also 5 reasons why parent cannot stay with their children As the dilemma of when schools open continues, it seems that these challenges are not leaving us soon. Follow me as I try to solve this puzzle in my next post. For more, read: https://ciscasquapro.com/education/ .. kindly follow and leave your opinion as you comment.

“Come here my baby.” Her mother said to her holding her hand and together they sat in a couch. Then she continued, “Liznet, my baby, sometimes life isn’t the way you see it. There is a lot hidden from your eyes and you will only discover it when you get a bit older. I have heard you clearly and I understand your sentiments.” Liznet was listening keenly as her mother sweetly spoke to her.

“You enjoy seeing birds soaring in the sky. Have you ever asked yourself where they shelter from heavy rains and storms? With you, you get inside the house and cover yourself tightly. If you would be able to talk to those birds, they also have a story to tell. They would complain that people are hash to them, cry out because of challenges from bad weather, they also get sick and other many bad things do happen to them.” She looked at her daughter who was nodding her head in agreement with the mother.

Then she went on, “When God created human beings, according to what The Bible says, they were wonderfully and fearfully made. He took ample time to make sure He made the best human being. Then, he was given permission to control all the other animals.” She took a Bible Story Book and showed her some pictures.

What I did in 1963 – Ciscasquapro

It is normal during morning rush hour at the town to have a lot of traffic as many people struggle to reach their places of work in time. One morning, there was this old man who wanted to go to town. He had some land issues he wanted to solve at Lands Office, but competing with the young people whom seemed not to recognize his age was not easy. He had to stay longer at the stage/bus terminals… ..You can also see other posts here

Finally, a bus arrived. Seeing the old man, the conductor gave him the first chance to get a seat. He then started collecting the fare from the passenger. He reach where the old man was sitting and requested him to pay for the ticket. To his surprise, the old man became very agressive almost fighting the young and well built conductor. The conductor was annoyed and they started exchanging bitter words. All over a sudden, the old man stood up charged like a wounded buffalo and said,

Young man, if you think you are strong enough, continue arguing with me. You will regret the day you were born after I have done what I did in 1963!

All the passengers were shocked. They pleaded with the conductor to live the man alone. After arriving to their destination, they all alighted. “Excuse me, before you go, would you mind to tell us what you did in 1963?” the young man asked the old man.

He laughed exposing his toothless gum.”Okay, if you want to know, well and good I will tell you…in 1963, I had no money to pay for transport though I wanted to go to my uncle’s place and so I had to walk miles away!…that is what I could have done….walk upto my destination!”

If you were the conductor, what could you have done? Leave a comment.

How I made it (epi.3)

Did you miss the previous episodes? Don’t worry, get them here.

“Good morning, can you come to Huduma Hospital as soon as possible.” Before I could enquire who was on the call, he hanged up. It was a strange voice and from it I could tell all was not well. I new without doubt that something bad may have happened to Bryan. In a hurry, I took a cab to Huduma Hospital.

When I arrived at the hospital, I was a a bit confused. Should I ask information about patient by the name Bryan? No, I wasn’t sure about Bryan. Just the day before he was well, but not having reported to work left me not knowing whether to ask about him or not. It was a real dilemma!

At the reception, a lady noted my restlessness. “Madam, how can I help you?” I explained my predicaments but to my surprise, there was nobody by the name Bryan in the hospital records. Who could have made the call? What was his intentions? I couldn’t get the answer to any of these. The caller used the landline and so I couldn’t get back to him for more information.

I sat helplessly in a couch that was at the reception not knowing what to do next. As I sank deep into my thoughts, just then, my phone rang. I picked it as first as I could hoping the caller would solve my problem. Anonymous call again! This time, it was a lady. ” Hello, we are sorry to inform you that the patient was in critical condition and so we decided to take him to the National Hospital. Please come as quickly as you can!” My effort to know more didn’t bear any fruits. So, what next? From Huduma Hospital to National Hospital.

Without wasting time, I called another cab and I after thirty minutes I was at the National Hospital. Full of anxiety, I hurried came out of the cab and headed to reception. If it were not for the cab driver who followed me, I couldn’t have remembered to pay him. I approached the receptionist to enquire about the patient. Before he could respond, a lady interrupted, “Hi, are you Tab….” Before she could finish her question, I had already responded, though this was not a common name at the office . “A man had been badly injured by a hit-and-run car. Before he went in a comma, he gave out your number. Right now the doctors are working on him. You will have to wait for some minutes before they are through.” she added.

Waiting there for not less than an hour looked like a whole year to me. So many questions waited for answers. Luckily, after an hour or so of waiting, I was now allowed to see the patient. I was directed to the room and beside him, there was a doctor.

Words alone cannot express what I felt. The body was full of bandages and he lay on the bed unconsciously. Unknowingly, I couldn’t control a scream after seeing him. The accident was terrible! I moved closer to get the intensity of the injuries. His face was halfway covered with bandages. To my surprise, it wasn’t Bryan!… don’t miss the next episode…just follow…. let me know your take on this through the comments. Also read life at the village?…..and…The girl who wished to be a bird.

What I would like to be in the next world…pt 2

Why did Liznet chose a bird for her next life? Catch the story What I would like to be in the next world – pt 1.

The visitors left and Liznet had a lot to tell her mother about her future world. She narrated her story:

In this world, there are so many problems. Children are being kidnapped day in day out. I see you watching news on television and most of the time, what make news is bad things like violence, robbery, war, floods, diseases and more. This is what people find interesting. I am fed up with this kind of life where everyone is scrambling for his or her wellbeing. I would like to have peace, go far away where nobody can get me. And I found all what I needed from a bird as I watched a flock soaring peacefully in the sky. No hatred, no hustle, no panic and no war. That’s why I decided to be a bird in the next life!

Liznet

Her mother looked at her with disbelief. She wondered why her five-year- old girl would be so optimistic on her future life. She had a task ahead…..catch the next part and hear what the mother told her daughter Liznet…. kindly, let me know your take on this through comments….if you come across this, kindly follow... What will happen to patients of Covid 19 in Kenya – Ciscasquapro

It is sad that the country cannot support the covid 19 patients in public hospitals and therefore advocating for homecare based therapy. This may be a big task as a number of citizens might not be able to handle the patients. It can also lead to more spread of the virus. If the children are not safe from covid 19, how will it be possible for family members to take care of the victims without the required attire? Remember Impact of Covid 19 on traveling has contributed to so many other challenges. This means that family members cannot travel to visit their sick relatives of whom they are supposed to be taking care of. It is like the pandemic is not leaving us soon. According to how things are going, the numbers of affected people is increasing day by day. And if this continues, Should kenyan students seat for their national exams this year? The irony is, school were closed because of one case of Covid 19, now they are expected to be opened when the number is increasing. With this homecare based treatment, will the parents be able to handle cases of the virus in schools? I think this is an issue that need to be revisited.
